Salisbury Steak with Onion Mushroom Gravy

Ingredients

1 lb (454 g) ground beef

2 tsp (10 mL) Heifer Dust or all-purpose seasoning

1 Tbsp (15 mL) Worcestershire sauce

1 medium Vidalia onion (8 oz / 225 g), sliced

8 oz (225 g) sliced baby bella mushrooms

1 Tbsp (15 mL) oil

2 Tbsp (28 g) butter or beef drippings

2 Tbsp (16 g) all-purpose flour

2 cups (475 mL) unsalted beef broth

1 tsp (5 g) beef bouillon

1 tsp (5 mL) Gravy Master or Kitchen Bouquet (optional)

Mashed potatoes for serving

Instructions

1. Preheat griddle to 350°F (175°C).

2. Cook onions and mushrooms until caramelized.

3. Mix beef with Worcestershire and half the seasoning. Form four oval patties.

4. Cook patties 4-5 minutes per side to 160°F (71°C). Remove.

5. Make a roux with butter and flour. Slowly whisk in beef broth.

6. Add bouillon and Gravy Master. Simmer until thick.

7. Stir onions and mushrooms into the gravy.

8. Serve Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes and cover with gravy.

Sorry to hear about your brother Michael. It was great seeing him and Megan at Addy's wedding.

Hopefully Justine and I are going to be making a trip to NC in November. We will all have to get together at Southern Lunch one night.
