We'll show you how to make an easy Thanksgiving turkey recipe by starting off with a easy dry brine, then butter layer, and then placing in the smoker for around 3hrs with a little apple and cherry wood. Don't have a smoker, no worries, just place in your oven.
Ingredients:
1 12-14 lb turkey (I like this size for smoking and optimal juiciness)
3 Tbs salt
Lemon zest
Herbs optional
2 sticks butter
3 cloves garlic
Directions:
Â
1. Remove packaging from turkey and using paper towels, dry turkey. Take salt and add lemon zest to the salt. Sprinkle salt all over the turkey including under the skin. Put in fridge for 24 hours to dry brine.
Â
2. Preheat smoker to 325 degrees. While coming up to temp, add a digital thermometer to the thick part of the breast. Mix butter and garlic together and put in some salt and pepper. Rub all over the turkey.
Â
3. Add two small chucks of apple wood and one small chunk of cherry wood. Put turkey on smoker in a roasting rack. After about two hours, baste the turkey with the leftover butter. Pull off smoker at 165 degrees. Let rest for about 15 minutes and slice and enjoy.
