Ultimate Ham Sliders

These are the classic ham sliders everyone knows — taken up a notch. Instead of stacking sliced ham and baking, the ham is chopped and griddled, then layered with melty cheese and finished with a savory-sweet butter sauce. The result is richer flavor, better texture, and sliders that don’t slide apart.

Yield
12 sliders

Cook Time

Ingredients
· 1 (12-count) package Hawaiian-style slider rolls
· 1½–2 lb ham, chopped (salt ham, honey ham, or off-the-bone)
· 12 slices Swiss cheese (or provolone, pepper jack, or preferred melting cheese)
· ½ cup unsalted butter
· 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
· 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
· 1 Tbsp brown sugar
· 1 tsp garlic powder
· 1 tsp onion powder
· 1 Tbsp mayonnaise (Duke recommended)
· 1–2 Tbsp avocado oil (for cooking ham)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. If using a pellet grill, preheat to 340–350°F.
2. Without separating the rolls, slice the entire slab horizontally to create tops and bottoms.
3. Toast both sides of the rolls lightly on a griddle or skillet until golden. Spread mayonnaise on the cut sides and set aside.
4. Heat a griddle or skillet over medium-high heat. Add avocado oil and chopped ham. Cook 4–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned and heated through.
5. In a saucepan or griddle-safe pan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, and onion powder. Remove from heat.
6. Lay cheese slices evenly across the bottom buns. Spoon hot ham evenly over the cheese. Add additional cheese if desired, then place the top buns on.
7. Brush the butter mixture generously over the tops and sides of the sliders.
8. Transfer sliders to oven or pellet grill. Bake 15–20 minutes, until cheese is melted and tops are golden.
9. Rest 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Chef Notes
• Chopping and cooking the ham creates more surface area and deeper flavor.• Any good melting cheese works — Swiss is classic, but provolone and pepper jack are excellent swaps.• This recipe works entirely indoors or outdoors on a griddle, pellet grill, or home oven. • Leftover holiday ham is perfect for this recipe.
